The Division consists of Internal Audit, SIP and Legal Services offices that report directly to Secretary.
Internal Audit Branch
The function of the Internal Audit Services is to ensure good corporate governance in the Department. Its primary role is to provide an independent, objective assurance and consulting service to the management, senior executive management (SEM) and the Audit Committee by systematically reviewing the effectiveness of risk management, risk control and the governance process. The Branch provides the management and the SEM with analysis, recommendations, counsel and information concerning the activities reviewed.
SERVICE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
SIP is a government initiative to improve basic service delivery to the people of PNG. SIP has the following features:
- It focuses on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of current services. It is different from the Basic Services Improvement Program and the Rural Development Program which focus on the maintenance of infrastructure. The SIP focuses on improving service processes and procedures.
- SIP involves multiple sectors and levels of government for improving services. It does this because many sectors have similar problems and SIP recognizes that there are opportunities for learning from one another and in the sharing of knowledge and resources.
- SIP is not a program that has an end date. Services can always be improved and SIP is intended to be process of continuous service improvement.
LEGAL SERVICES
This office is to facilitate and advise the Department of Works on legal matters and landholder issues.
