Operations Division is the implementing arm of the Department’s Capital Works and Maintenance Program. It comprises two headquarter-based branches and the 19 Provincial Offices. The two branches are Asset Management and Local Government Engineering (ORD & DRIP) while Provincial offices are divided into two Regional Offices i.e. Southern/Highlands Region and Northern/Islands Region.
Asset Management Branch
Maintenance Coordination Services has three sections with separate functions.
- Road Maintenance Implement and monitor the annual road maintenance works program.
- Road Asset Management System (RAMS) Plan, prepare and program annual maintenance strategies, budgets and work plans.
- Bridge Maintenance System Implements and monitors the annual bridge maintenance works program.
Local Government Engineering Branch
The role of the Local Government Engineering Branch is to provide technical advice and assistance in implementing rural infrastructure projects for provincial administrations, implementation of Electoral Development funded projects for the members of Parliament, Local Level Governments, Community Governments as well as donor-funded projects.
Southern & Highlands Region Office
This regional office is based in Central Province and administers the provinces in the Southern and Highlands regions. It coordinates and monitors all capital works and maintenance programs through the 10 DOW Provincial Works Managers. The provinces include Central, Milne Bay, Gulf, Western, Oro, Southern Highlands, Enga, Western Highlands, Simbu and Eastern Highlands.
Northern & Islands Region Office
This regional office is based in Morobe Province and administers the provinces in the Northern and Islands regions. It coordinates and monitors all capital works and maintenance programs through the 9 DOW Provincial Works Managers. The provinces include Morobe, Madang, East Sepik, Sandaun, East New Britain, West New Britain, Bougainville, New Ireland and Manus.
