| Minister for Works, Transport and Civil Aviation | |
It is with great pleasure that I present to you the 2009 to 2012 Department of Works (DoW) Corporate Plan. It was necessary to review the corporate plan in order to accommodate the National Transport Development Plan (NTDP) under the Medium Term Development Strategy (MTDS) and its fi rst priority of rehabilitation and maintenance of transport infrastructure, and to align this priority to the corporate plans of DoW. This Corporate Plan will be implemented from 1st January 2009 to 31st December 2012.
We have since identified the strategies that we have to adopt and the key performance indicators that will assist us to measure our achievements.Nevertheless, I need to emphasise that the success of the Corporate Plan largely requires the collective efforts and commitment of those in management positions whose roles are to provide the necessary support and cooperation. The outsourcing of project and design work is due to the limited in-house capacity within the Department to adequately and timely implement our programs in a government department environment. It also demonstrates the Department’s adaptability to implement the Somare Government’s Public Private Partnership policy.
I envisage this strategic approach will improve the Department’s delivery of its mandate on time, within budget and to the required quality. It is my wish that the Corporate Plan goes a long way in assisting and guiding us in our continued search for enhanced productivity and therefore facilitating improved implementation of all agreed projects within the NTDP.
