Department of Works Appoints Acting HIV/AIDS Officer
The Administration Officer for Human Resource Development (Newtown Branch) Mr. Joe Kerekere was appointed as acting HIV/AIDS Officer by the Department of Works Secretary Mr. Joel Luma. Mr. Kerekere was appointed and commenced his duties on Monday 21st, February, 2011.
Following the Governments Policy on Gender Equality, the position of HIV/AIDS Officer was created in the 2008 structure; however, since then it has been vacant, thus, making the appointment by Mr. Luma a necessity for the department.
The position deals with the cross-cutting issues on gender equality and other lifestyle issues. The position fulfills the most important aspects of gender issues in the country, and as a result, the Department has proceeded to address these issues as part of its commitment to taking forward steps in accomplishing Government Policies on gender equality and lifestyle issues.
To assist the Department to address and implement Government Policies on HIV/AIDS and other gender issues, Mr. Kerekere has been appointed acting HIV/AIDS Officer, responsible for dealing with all HIV/AIDS and lifestyle related issues on behalf of the department.
The Officer reports to the Assistant Secretary with the aim of reducing the threats of health and lifestyle issues and providing support and counseling services to officers of the department, including marital issues and as a first step resolution for many officers in the departments.
On making the appointment via a circular, Mr. Luma welcomed Mr. Kerekere to the position and urged the staff to "give him the support and cooperation he needs in his role as the HIV/AIDS Officer in the Department.
