The Financial Management System is one of the most unique asset being successfully installed in all the 19 provinces throughout Papua New Guinea through the department's wide area network. It is a real-time system where financial data is processed and simultaneously produces a response within a specified time.The department has been using the system since 1992 with ongoing upgrades and enhancements.

FINANCE & IT DIVISION

The Division comprises of three Branches which include Finance & Budget, Information Technology and Project Coordination. The primary role of the Division is to support the other Divisions in ensuring the departments objectives/plans are achieved.


Finance and Budget Branch

This branch provides support services to the management and the main Divisions through financial management, budgetary and accounting services and advise on financial policies and procedures.


Information Technology Branch

The Branch exists to support the overall objective of the Department of Works by developing and maintaining an appropriate Information Technology infrastructure to enable all users of information technology within the Department access to reliable and timely information for reporting and decision making. The objectives of the Branch therefore are;

  • Set up and maintain an Information Technology infrastructure for the Department of Works.
  • Install and maintain the Departmental computerized accounting and payroll systems.
  • Provide advice and assistance in the purchase of computers, peripherals and computer systems.
  • Provide software development and support services to the Department.
  • Install computer hardware and software on new computers and provide hardware & software maintenance for computers where possible.
  • Setup and maintain the Departments file server systems, Communication systems and Local and Wide Area Network infrastructure.

Project Coordination Branch

Project Coordination comprises two sections; Project Coordination and Contracts Management. Their main functions are to ensure efficient coordination of projects under the Capital Works and Maintenance Program and to provide coordination advice on monitoring the financial and physical performance on the procurement of works and goods and services under K100,000.
